James "Jim" Pursel Sr. age 76, passed away at his home in Myrtle Beach on July 31, 2025 surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Batavia, NY to the late John and Elsie Dixon Pursel. He belonged to the Rochester Laborers Union local 435 while employed with Soccio and Della Penna of Batavia. He worked his way up from laborer to foreman over the years. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and carried his love for these to SC. His "Happy Place" was at their camper on Lake Marion where he enjoyed many wonderful years and made many great new friends. At any time day or night you could find Jim with his wife on their pontoon boat out on the lake fishing. Over the years he also found time to make many woodcrafts that he took to all the local craft fairs. His newest hobby was making beautiful stained glass decor that is enjoyed by his family and friends. Jim's survivors include his loving wife Helene, brother John (Peg) Pursel Jr. of Batavia, NY, son James Pursel Jr. (Kathy Antinore) of Batavia, NY, daughter Tina Pursel of Burlington, NC, grandchildren, Dylan (Anna)Gossett of Burlington, NC, James Pursel of Batavia, NY, Andrea (Will) Simmons of Batavia, NY, Ashley (Nicholas) Manuel of Batavia, NY and 6 great grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his brother Gary Pursel, nephew Gary Lee Pursel Jr, and step son Christopher Ball. There will be no calling hours but the family wishes to express their heart felt thanks and out pouring of love they are receiving. Thank you Jim for all the beautiful memories you've left us with.
