Col. James E. "Jim" Swab, USMC Ret., 91, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, in Lincolnshire, IL. He was born on July 2, 1934, in Miller, SD and was stationed in many locations throughout his military career, most notably Norway in the late '70s and later retiring from the, Great Lakes Naval Base to Mundelein, IL. He spent the last 12 years living in Lincolnshire. Jim received his bachelor's degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He retired from the United States Marine Corps after 31 years of service and was a member of Lake County Marine Corps League. Jim served as president of Freemont Public Library Board, was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville, and took great pride in organizing the Sedgebrook Marines and participating in the Sedgebrook Writers Group. Jim enjoyed genealogy and will be missed by all who knew him. Surviving are his 3 children, Jim (Jill) Swab, Amy Swab & Patricia "Patsy" Kregel; grandson, Hunter Kregel and by 2 sisters, Janet Krueger & Jean Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, by a sister, Joyce (Ken) Patterson and by brothers-in-law, Carl Krueger & Lowell Johnson. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service with military honors at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 W. Maple Ave. in Libertyville.
