James Hubert Rinnert, 80, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 4:32 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.

James parents were Hubert Lorenzo and Ina May (Harned) Rinnert, from Flora, IL. He has lived in New Carlisle, IN since 2022. Prior to that he lived in Chicago, IL, for 45 years. Along with his parents; he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Newsome and her husband, Robert.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his Country from 1966 – 1968. James retired in 2007 from In These Times, Chicago, IL, where he worked 25 years until his retirement as Art Director in 2007.

On April 4, 2015, he married Brent Fisher in Chicago, IL.

James is survived by his loving spouse, Brent Fisher of New Carlisle, IN; a brother, Max (Nancy) Rinnert of Pensacola, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

James had many varied interests and was accomplished as a visual artist, received a Jeff Award for his play, the Artaud Project, and is a co-writer of a book on theater.

A celebration of life will take place in Chicago on September 27, 2025.

So sorry to hear this news , I wasn't close to James but when I worked in Chicago theater we crossed paths a few times . He was always fun to talk to and see . I never knew he was so close to me regionally . I live in Elkhart now .
