James Rogers Obituary

Ret. CSM James Clifford "Roy" Rogers, age 83, passed away on April 12, 2025, in Kempner, Texas. Born on February 3, 1942, in Van Buren, Arkansas, James lived a life marked by devotion—to his country, his faith, and most of all, his family.

James began his distinguished military career in March of 1959 at the age of 17 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He graduated basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1959, from there he was stationed all over the world including Germany, Korea, France and throughout the United States. He retired at age 47 at Ft. Hood Texas, after over 30 years of Active Military service. After retirement he worked on Ft. Hood as a contractor for General Dynamics for an additional 14 years and retired for good in 2005.

His dedication and valor were recognized with numerous awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Medal.

James shared 63 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Linda. Together they raised four daughters: Tammy Simpson and her husband Gary; Sandra Peels; Christel Gordon and her husband Jay; and Misty Best and her husband Richard. James took great joy in being a grandfather to 14 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 23 great-grandchildren.

James will be remembered not only for his service to country but for the warmth he brought into every room. Quick with a smile and always ready with a kind word, he left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sneed - Carnley Funeral Chapel and Cremations located at 1614 S FM 116 in Copperas Cove, Texas. A memorial service will follow on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM at the same location. Graveside services will take place immediately afterward at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery at 11463 TX-195 in Killeen, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to James' GoFundMe.
