SALTER, James Edward Sr., departed this life on March 24, 2009. He is survived by his devoted wife, Leona I. Salter; five children, Andris Y., James E. Jr. (Bernadette), Judy Brown (Lamarr), Wayne L., and Joseph F; daughter-in-law, Denise Wallace; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three godchildren; three sisters, Bertha H. Butler, Lottie B. Bryant and Ruby L. Carter (Leone); three brothers, Ned W. (Eula), Rev. George (Melba), and Melvin R. (Mary Helen); two sisters-in-laws, Elizabeth McDonald (James), and Earlene R. Salter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; one devoted, Alice M. Tomlinson. Remains rest at Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Viewing will be held Wednesday April 1 at 12 noon followed by funeral rites at 1 p.m. from Asbury United Methodist Church, 29th & Marshall St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Richmond Special Olympics.
