James "Jim" Sanders also nicknamed "Colonel" by his fellow miners, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 while residing in North Canton, Ohio. He was born August 8, 1944 in Denver, Colorado and graduated in 1962 from South High in Denver.
Jim moved to Silverton in 1970 and worked in the mines. Jim loved mining and entered several of the mining contests held in Colorado including Silverton's own, Hardrockers Holidays where he won several trophies including the first all-around miner. In 1989, Jim moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ where he became Captain on the paddle wheeler, Dixie Belle and retired in 2005.
Jim was well respected and known by all to be a hard worker, a great provider and a loving father and grandfather.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Ingwald Sanders; his mother, Pauline (Warden) Sanders and his brother, Gene Logan Sanders.
Jim is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, JoLea and Mike Quintana; son, Jimmy Sanders and son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Lisa Sanders; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one expected great granddaughter; one great great grandson.
His wishes were to be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date in Colorado where his cremains will remain. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hardrockers Holidays, P.O. Box 613, Silverton, CO 81433. Reed Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements and you may leave condolences and fond memories at www.reedfuneralhome.com.

He was such a sweet funny man who loved drinking hot toddy´s I always enjoyed visiting with him and hearing his stories about his younger days with his friends his brother and his family. He definitely earned his wings and is up there talking to God right now.
