James Michael Schmitter
James Michael Schmitter also known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family passed away peacefully on Sunday November 2nd at the age of 77. He was born on October 14, 1948 in Dallas, Texas.
James was preceded in death by his parents Paul Keith and Verda Mae Schmitter, his brother Bobby Keith and sister Candi Seeley. He is survived by his wife Isabelle Schmitter, his sons Justin Michael Schmitter and his wife Amanda, Travis James Schmitter and Jesse Espinoza and his wife Brandi, his two grandchildren Annabelle and Jackson and sister in law Carol Schmitter and numerous nieces and nephews.
James graduated from MacArthur High School and attended TCJC where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. He served in the US Navy on the USS Chipola and did a tour in Vietnam. He was known as a "Riverrat'' because he maneuvered a swift boat. He traveled to various countries which he often reminisced about. His service to his nation was a source of great pride and shaped much of his character.
He worked at Hughes Supply and National Wholesale Supply in Dallas, Texas. His work ethic and enthusiasm made him a respected figure but he still managed to make his colleagues laugh. He always made sure the Candy Jar was full.
He found joy in watching old movies, listening to oldies and Jazz and also traveling. Those who knew him will remember his thoughtfulness and kindness. James was also an Ordained Minister and he married several couples.
His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. As we bid farewell we do so with gratitude for the time and memories. He will be terribly missed.
