Arthur William Schmitter, 99, of Little Falls, passed away December 25th, peacefully in Cedar Grove, surrounded by family.
Arthur was born in Haledon and moved to Little Falls in 1938, where he remained for the next 87 years. He was a proud member of the second graduating class of Passaic Valley High School. After graduation, Arthur enlisted in the United States Army Air Force, where he earned his fighter pilot wings as a second lieutenant in 1945, a service he was immensely proud of.
Upon returning from the service, Arthur attended Fairleigh Dickinson University, earning a degree in Engineering. He applied his education in his work with Curtiss Wright and later with Singer-Kearfott, contributing to the fields of engineering, defense and technology throughout his career.
Arthur loved his family and was the epitome of the doting grandfather; always front and center at every personal, academic or athletic event. Undoubtedly, his grandchildren's biggest and most adoring fan.
Arthur is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth (Ramella), and his brother, William. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Susan Eckrote and her husband, Rob; granddaughter, Megan; grandson, Robert and his wife, Jessica; and their son, Robert George.
At the request of the family, services will be private

Susan.... I am so sorry for your loss. My fondest memories of your Dad are my childhood days on Wallace Lane and summer boating. My father always looked forward to ride sharing to Giants games and the laughs they shared.
Your Dad will forever be remembered as my " Uncle Art".
With deepest sympathy,
