James "Jim" Edward Schmitz of Tonganoxie, KS, passed away on March 4, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born May 25, 1957, in Colorado Springs to Harold and Erma Schmitz.

a visitation will be 12pm March 28, 2026 at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie. Burial will follow at 1pm at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Jim was known by those who loved him as the soft-spoken cowboy, rarely seen without his cowboy hat. He loved deeply and unconditionally, always putting the people he cared about first. Throughout his life, he loved cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, riding his horses (especially Kojack), and spending time with his family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Erma Schmitz; his daughters Brandi Rae Schmitz and Brandie Lee Simpson; his brother Alan Schmitz; and his sister Bonnie Schmitz.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen; his daughter Dena Smith; his granddaughters Kassidy Wieduwilt and Milania McGinnis; his sisters Rose DeCourcy and Paula Schmitz; his nieces Cara DeCourcy, Sonya Harding, Dannah Campbell, and Holly Barker; and his nephew Sean DeCourcy.

He will be missed more than words can express.
