James William Setla of Caro, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Covenant Health Care Cooper in Saginaw. Jim was born December 2, 1948 in Lincoln Park, the son of the late Walter J. and Sophie M. (Dashkevicz) Setla. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Caro High School. While in high school Jim helped Ted LaFave set up and play records at the local school dances. Over the years, he worked various jobs, including at Don Brown Electric and as a cook at the Cock & Bull in the Hotel Montague. He spent many years working for Imlay City Total Oil Co. as an area rep., before opening his own business, Jim's Cards, which he ran for nearly twenty-five years until his retirement in 2014.
On March 20, 1976, Jim married the love of his life, Ronnie Norraine Wiley. Their marriage, lasting over forty-eight years, was blessed with two children and countless cherished memories. Jim was an avid golfer and a member of the Caro Golf Course, often traveling to the Carolinas and the Upper Peninsula to play on different courses. He enjoyed collecting cards and coins, and in his younger years, he loved fishing with his dad. A talented guitar player, Jim was a member of various bands since high school. He was a jack of all trades, always willing to help others fix things and ensuring they learned how to do it themselves. Jim enjoyed motorcycle rides and was known for his great sense of humor. His love, hard work, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ronnie; their son, Kirk (Lacie) Setla; grandchildren, Kelsey & Brandon Setla; siblings, Gary (Karen) Setla and Jane Scott; brothers-in-law, Neal (Jan) Wiley and Lonnie Wiley; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Sadie Lynn Setla; brother, Dennis Setla; sister-in-law, Vivian Speakman; and brother-in-law, Bob Neiman.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Jim's 2:00 p.m. service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family, c/o Ronnie Setla, 205 West Sherman St., Caro, MI 48723.

Jim was a classmate and friend. I will always remember him because of his constant smile and infectious laugh. I know he's in Heaven play the songs of the 60s or strumming his guitar. RIP
