James Severino Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Glenville Funeral Home - Glenville on Aug. 13, 2024.
James L. Severino, known affectionately as Jim by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on August 17, 1944, in Schenectady, NY, to the late Orlando and Viola (Salvet) Severino, Jim's life was a testament to his loving, kind, and adventurous spirit.
Jim graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1962 and completed the General Electric Apprentice Program in 1965. His career as a steam turbine draftsman for General Electric and later as a manager of test drafting for Lockheed Martin spanned an impressive 43 years, culminating in his retirement in 2005. Jim's work ethic and dedication to his profession were matched only by his commitment to his family and the community.
On September 17, 1966, Jim married the love of his life, Barbara A. (Kryszczak) Severino. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter, welcoming two daughters, Lee Bottari (Robert) and Jill Severino (Mark Reinfrank), who would become the center of Jim's world. His love for his girls was immeasurable and evident in every aspect of his life.
Jim's siblings, Mary Owens (TJ Sullivan), Cathy Severino, Thomas Severino (Dr. Anton Wallner), and John Severino, shared in his life's journey, along with his beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Janet Neary, whose memory he cherished dearly.
Following his retirement, Jim continued to work with his good friend Bernie at Bernie's Garage and served as a Peace Officer at the Saratoga Race Track, where his presence was a source of comfort and safety for many. Jim's passion for the outdoors was undeniable. He loved traveling across the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean, with a particular fondness for Maine, especially Perkins Cove in Ogunquit. His adventurous spirit led him to complete hiking the Adirondack 46 High Peaks, a feat that spoke to his love for nature and challenge. Camping, hiking, and fishing were activities that not only brought Jim joy but also provided cherished moments with family and friends.
A man of many interests, Jim was a proud member of the General Electric Apprentice Alumni, Guan Ho Ha Fish and Game Club, NRA, Adirondack 46ers Club, the YMCA, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. He believed in giving back and volunteered his time with STEP, an organization providing equine-assisted therapy, where his compassionate nature made a positive impact on many lives.
A life well-lived and well-loved, Jim's memory will be cherished and celebrated by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to STEP, PO Box 2918, Glenville, NY 12325-0918. Online condolences www.glenvillefuneralhome.com

Jimmy was a good friend to the class of '62 at Mont Pleasant High. He tracked me down in Ohio for reunions & made me laugh& enjoy his good nature. Condolences to his family & friends. God speed Jim!

Jim was a classmate and a class guy. He worked hard to put our class reunion together, and was always helpful and good natured. The world is a better place because of him.
