James David Shrum

Forever remembered as the tough law enforcement officer/detective who became Grandpa Softy, his words of wisdom, like "If it's predictable, it's preventable" or "needs more garlic", will echo through the generations. James David Shrum Jr. (81) of Santa Rosa, CA, passed into his next adventure on October 24th, 2025.
Jim was born on August 18th, 1944, to James David Shrum, Sr. and LaVey Mildred Sargent. Starting his life in Florida, Jim and his sister Marlyn Shrum lived in various locations throughout the United States while their father served in the US Army. Jim's life changed forever in California when he met Claudia Pleasants while sitting on the hood of his car playing the guitar. They were soon married, and after serving his country in the US Navy, they welcomed Jimmy, Stephen, Kimberly, and Joy into the world.
Known for his love of BBQ, fishing, and movie theater popcorn, Jim lived for family, God, and country. He made the best scratch hot cocoa and expressed his love for others through service and bad jokes.
We will celebrate Jim's life at 10 am on November 15th, 2025. Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1725 Peterson Lane, Santa Rosa, CA 95403). The family welcomes all to attend and honor Dad's life.
