James Gregory Simmons

James Gregory Simmons, age 67 of Marion, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025 in Marion.
James was born July 20, 1958 in Marion, the son of Sam Bracey and Mary Alice (Thomas) Simmons-Reece. He was educated in Marion and after high school graduation went on to receive is Associates degree.
In 1976, James enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he began a long and dedicated career with the Railroad until his retirement.
James had a true knack for fixing anything that was broken. He enjoyed making pottery, exploring the outdoors, and casting a fishing line whenever he could. A talented chef, James especially loved to barbecue and host family gatherings - always complete with good food, laughter, and fireworks. Known for his unique sense of style, he had an impressive collection of hats that became one of his trademarks.
James had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. Later in life, he came to know and give his life to Jesus, becoming a pastor and sharing God's Word with others. Singing gospel music brought him great joy and reflected the faith that guided his life.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Although he did not have biological children of his own, through the use of his time, generosity and love was 'father' to many.
He is survived by his loving siblings: Maria Chandler, Tammy Bracy, Samuel Bracy, Strother (Melody) Bracy, Keith Simmons, Brett M. Reece, Starling Reece, Jr., and Benita Flournoy; also surviving are a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his father Sam Bracey, mother and step-father: Mary Alice and Starling Reece, Sr.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 7, 2025 at Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel, 360 East Center St., Marion from 4PM to 7PM; funeral service will be Saturday at 11AM at True Faith Church of God in Christ, 599 East Fairground St. Marion; burial will be Monday November 10, 2025 at 12:15PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273
