James “Jim” Paul Sims
November 10, 1952 – March 15, 2026
James "Jim" Paul Sims, a respected public servant, devoted family man, and lifelong resident of Kennedale, Texas, passed away on March 15, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born on November 10, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas, Jim was preceded in death by parents, Jack Winston Sims and Louise VanKralingen Sims; and brother, Jack W. Sims Jr.
Jim graduated from O.D. Wyatt High School, Class of 1971, and continued his education at Tarrant County College. He began his distinguished career in public safety in 1973 after completing the Basic Fire Fighting Program with the Arlington Fire Department, followed by graduation from the Police Academy through the North Texas Council of Governments in 1977.
Throughout his career, he served in multiple public safety roles, including firefighter, fire investigator, fire lieutenant, and assistant fire marshal across several cities in Tarrant County. He specialized in fire suppression, origin and cause investigations, code enforcement, and expert testimony, and later expanded his work in pyrotechnic operations involving public firework displays.
Beyond his professional life, Jim had a passion for stage, lighting, and sound production and was well known for his work in audio/visual production throughout North Texas.
Jim will be remembered for his integrity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting his community. His work left a lasting impact on fire investigation and public safety across the region.
Jim will be remembered as an incredible man whose kindness, humor, and genuine spirit touched so many lives. He was known for his quick wit, uplifting personality, and ability to connect with everyone he met, whether lifelong friends, coworkers, or those who simply crossed his path. A dedicated professional and loyal friend, Jim took pride in his work and brought joy to it, often making even the hardest days feel lighter. He was deeply loved by his family and cherished by countless friends, many of whom recall his laughter, encouragement, and support. Jim's presence left a lasting impression, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Pamela; his son, James W. and spouse Elena; grandchildren Austin and his fiancée Kayla, and Alexis; great-grandchildren Emersyn and Avery; niece Amy and her husband, James; and nephew Jon and spouse Beth, along with many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will miss him dearly.
Jim’s legacy is one of service, strength, and dedication—both to his profession and to the family he cherished deeply. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
