James Slaughter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by B.E. Brown & Co Mortuary on Jan. 19, 2026.
James Slaughter Sr. was born on September 29,1950, to Gilbert Slaughter Sr. and Lula Robinson Slaughter; both who proceeded him in death. James Slaughter Sr… a native of Camden, AL and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL departed this life on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, peacefully in his home.

Mr. Slaughter, also known as "Big James" or "Manson" attended Central High School where he met and married his high school sweetheart, the late Patricia Jackson Slaughter. To this union three children were born.

James worked for Mobile Infirmary Medical Center for 38 years before retiring from the Lab. He proudly worked his way up from a transporter to THE BEST Phlebotomist in the state of Alabama, resulting in the nickname "The Vampire". After retirement, he continued to be active by assisting with volunteer services and staying busy with his social circles. In his later years, he was welcomed by and fellowshipped with St. John United Methodist Church. James was one-of-a-kind! He was known for his distinctive voice, big laugh, jokes, pranks, and trash talking. His presence and genuine personality will truly be missed.

Along with his parents, James was also preceded in death by three brothers: Danny Slaughter, Carl Slaughter, and Gilbert Slaughter Jr; and one sister: Annie Lois Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, James (LaGreeta) Slaughter Jr., Michael (Cedia) Slaughter of Harker Heights, TX; one daughter, Catrena Slaughter; two grandchildren; Sierra Slaughter of Atlanta, GA and James Slaughter III of Hattiesburg, MS; one brother, Dale Slaughter; three sisters, Regina Slaughter Thorpe of Tampa, FL, Daisy Taylor, and Carol Taylor; one sister-in-law, Sharon Jackson; one brother-in-law, Darryl (JaCynthia) Jackson; a host of nephews, nieces, other family and friends; one devoted friend, Emma Davis; and his extended families at Mobile Infirmary Hospital & Federal Credit Union, Central Presbyterian Church Ministries, McKemie Place, and St. John United Methodist Church.
