James "Jimmy" Walthall Southall III, age 91, of Jetersville, Virginia, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Jimmy was born on November 17, 1933, in Amelia County, Virginia. He dedicated much of his early life to managing his dairy farm and providing for his wife and four daughters. After retiring from the dairy business, he continued farming his land that had been in his family for generations and serving as an active member in his church community. He eventually welcomed his four grandchildren into the world and enjoyed taking them on rides on the farm, listening to bluegrass music, picking watermelons from his garden, and sharing stories about his life, the family's history, and the good old days. After retirement, he devoted his final years to spending time with family. His great-grandchildren were a source of immense joy in his final years. Their after-school visits filled his afternoons with laughter, love and treasured moments. Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Bonnie (William) Morton, Mary (Andrew) Hetz, and Lorie Keener; grandchildren, Hope (Dustin) Bates, Jamie King, Haley (Michael) White, and Grayson King; great grandchildren, Nolan Bates and Linleigh Bates; and sisters, Ellen and her late husband, Neil, Prothers, Jane and her late husband, Charles, Martin, and Phyllis (Chuck) Mulvey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Southall; youngest daughter, Teresa Southall; father, James Walthall Southall II; mother, Helen Kidwell; and sister, Ann Owen. A memorial service will be held at Jetersville Baptist Church on Saturday, September 20 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Amelia County Rescue Squad.
