James Edward "Eddie" Stephens Sr., age 70, passed away on January 12, 2026, following a month-and-a-half battle with double pneumonia and kidney failure.
Eddie was born in Sweetwater, Tennessee, on November 22, 1955, to the late James William Stephens and Vina Gladys Pauline Stephens. A true nature lover, Eddie found joy in fishing, camping, and simply sitting on his back porch or around a fire with a Budweiser in hand. He especially enjoyed riding back roads and taking in the beautiful Tennessee scenery.
Eddie was a devoted father, son, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Burnette, Wanda Robinson Lee, Pearl Knox, Susie Ledford, and Jean Barwick; brother, Sam Stephens; and son, James Edward Stephens Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Tabitha Starks; brothers, Jack Stephens and Wayne Stephens; and sisters, Judy Dixon and Jewel Frye.
There are no formal services planned at this time. The family will hold a memorial at a later date.
