James Hillmon Stockdale, age 88, of Paris, Tennessee passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Henry County Hospital. His funeral service will be 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Wiley United Methodist Church, 422 W. Blythe Street in Paris with Rev. Jackie Gardner to officiate. Burial will follow the service in Greenwood Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation with the family is scheduled after 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the church until time of service.
James Hillmon Stockdale was born March 10, 1936 in Henry County, Tennessee to the late Hillmon Stockdale and the late Lurlie Diggs Stockdale. He married Geraldine Etheridge Stockdale on October 4, 1958 and she preceded him in death on March 23, 1992; James later married Dorothy Todd Stockdale on October 19, 1994 and she preceded him in death on March 6, 2018. He is also survived by his daughter, Peggy (James Edward) Taylor of Paris; sons, James (Melinda) Stockdale of Paris and Juan Stockdale of McKenzie; and by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents and spouses, Mr. Stockdale is preceded in death by his daughter, Jannette Fitzgerald; sisters, Johnnie Mae and Katherine; and by brothers, William D. and Hurley "Bud".
James was a Christian by faith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, watching westerns and spending time with his family. It was fondly said by his family that James took meticulous care of his yard, his vehicles, and his lawn mower.
