James L. Stribling, M.D., aged 92, known affectionately as Jim, passed away peacefully at 8:46 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2025, while at Traditions of Columbus.

Jim was born March 16, 1933, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, the son of Maurice and Bertha VanDyne Stribling. On April 15, 1979, he married Anne Frances Courtney. Jim's life was a testament to his intelligence, spirited nature, and dedication to family and community.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Anne; his children, Stephen (Amber) Stribling of Colorado, Sharon (Randy) Ash of Muncie, Leslie (Eric) Massimilla of Texas, and Michael Stribling of Bloomington. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Ian (Michelle) Stribling, Stephanie Stribling, Tori (Eric) Franklin, Gwen (Daniel) Lane, and Masden (Stephen) Maguire, as well as his seven great-grandchildren and several cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald and Duane Stribling.

After attending Wabash College, Jim's sense of duty led him to serve in the United States Air Force, from which he was honorably discharged. His passion for healing and science brought him back to Indiana, where he attended Purdue University and then completed his medical education at Indiana University Medical School. Jim dedicated his life to women's health, opening his practice, Women's Medicine, Inc., in Columbus in 1965. As a respected physician, he served twice as Chief of Staff at Columbus Regional Hospital and later honed his expertise in GYN surgery.

Beyond medicine, Jim's passion for aviation soared as high as the planes he piloted. With over 50 years of flying experience, he not only enjoyed flying but also took pleasure in building and restoring various aircraft. His commitment to the aviation community was evident through his years of service on the Columbus Airport Board of Aviation Commissioners.

Jim's intelligence was apparent, not only in his professional life, but also in his ability to engage with those around him. His spirited conversations, often about flying or the latest medical advancements, left a lasting impression on friends and colleagues alike.

In keeping with the family's request, cremation will take place. A private family celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Jim's life was rich with accomplishment and love, and his memory will be honored by all who knew him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on the world and the warmth he brought to our lives. Dr. James Stribling's journey was one of purpose, joy, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
