James "Jim" Michael Thomas, age 54, of Oskaloosa, IA, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA, surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim was born on September 19, 1970, at the North Kansas City Hospital in Missouri to James Lewis and Janet (Umble) Thomas. He grew up attending school in Knoxville, IA. On June 15, 1996, he was united in marriage to Tina Davis in Eddyville and to this union, 2 children, Zacheriah and Zoe, were born. Jim and Tina shared nearly 28 years of marriage prior to his passing.
Jim worked as a sheet metal fabricator for Vista Manufacturing before going to work as machinist at Clow Valve Co. in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Jim then became an over-the-road truck driver, driving for 22 years.
Jim enjoyed being outdoors, riding his Harley and riding 4-wheelers. He also enjoyed playing Play Station, especially Call of Duty, and Geocaching with his granddaughter. Above all else, Jim's family was everything to him and he cherished all the time spent with them, especially his granddaughter.
Jim is survived by his wife, Tina; 2 children, Zacheriah (Danielle) Thomas and Zoe (Matt Anderson) Thomas; a granddaughter, Zaharah Grace; his parents, James and Janet Thomas; sisters, Brenda (Jeramy) Payer and Tara (Eric) Davis; and his mother-in-law, Cheryl Davis. Jim is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Leroy Brungardt; his father-in-law, Steven Davis; and his grandparents, Milo and Deloris Umble and Lewis and Marilyn Roland.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jim's family present to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Dan Van Kooten officiating. Per Jim's wishes, his body will be cremated following services and a private family burial will be held at Pleasant Corners Cemetery in Eddyville at a later date.
An open memorial has been established to the family.
