Mr. James Larry Thomas, age 81, of Roopville (Roosterville Community) passed away February 5, 2026.

His funeral will be held Monday February 9, 2026 at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home with Rev. Randy King and Rev. Cecil Davis officiating and eulogy by Mr. Waymon Jones. Interment will follow in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Monday morning from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the service.

Early Life and Family

James Larry Thomas was born on July 26, 1944 in Blount County, Alabama, and spent his formative years in West Point, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey Ruth Fullilove; his son, Charles Edward Thomas, Sr.; his father, Fred Thomas; and his mother, Ethelene Thomas Livingston.

Community Involvement and Career

Larry was a respected member of the Roopville, Georgia community and actively participated in Unity Baptist Church in Roosterville, Georgia. His early experiences working on a farm fostered a strong sense of responsibility, which carried through into his varied professional life. He was self-employed in several occupations, including serving as an Over-the-Road truck driver, carpenter, home builder, and owner/operator of Thomas Grocery in Palmetto, Georgia.

Military Service

Like many of his countrymen, Larry served in the Vietnam War and was recognized for his service with a Bronze Star, awarded by the U.S. Army. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, reflecting his dedication and bravery.

Personal Interests

An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, Larry traveled to numerous tournaments and favorite fishing spots across the South, sharing these experiences with family and friends. His passion for fishing was a source of joy and camaraderie throughout his life.

Survivors

Larry is survived by his son, Lee Bryan Thomas and his wife Shannon of Austin, Texas; his sisters, Joan T. Mitchell of Huntsville, Alabama, Myrion Prickett, and Peggy and Paul Lassanske of Summerville, South Carolina; six grandchildren: Kristy Lynn Thomas, Charles Edward Thomas, Jr., Katie Thomas, and Faith Marie Thomas of Austin, Grace Wynelle Thomas of Washington, DC, and Danielle Rose Thomas; as well as four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Unity Baptist Church (PO Box 207 Roopville, GA 30170).
