James William Thompson, age 81, of Cedar Bluff, VA, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Clinch Valley Medical Center.

James was born on May 27, 1944, in Richlands, VA. He was the son of the late William Calvin Thompson and Billie Louise Hagy Thompson. He was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1961 and later attended VA Tech. James joined the Army in 1962 and was stationed at Fort Carson Colorado. He was very proud of his service. After his discharge, he chose to stay in Colorado Springs where he was the owner of Wildwood Realty. He returned to the Richlands area in 1982 where he became a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. He owned and operated Designed Appraisal Services for over 30 years. Jim was a loving father and was very proud of his children. He loved family gatherings, cookouts and going to the beach with his family. He also enjoyed raising a garden. James loved the Colorado Rockies and was a big fan of the Denver Broncos.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Wayne Thompson.

James is survived by his:

Wife, Janet Lynn Woosley

Daughter, Tamara Thompson and husband, Kyle Deakin of Colorado Springs

Son, Michael Thompson of Colorado Springs

Sister, Susan Thacker of Richlands, VA

Niece, Sarah Woods of Richlands, VA

Special Nephew, Isaac Thompson of Tennessee

Ex-Wife, Diane Thompson

Grandchildren:

Rachel Eliaser (Alan); Cody Thompson; Kayla Thompson (Lorenzo Young); and Ashley Thompson (Ryan Dozier).

Great Grandchildren:

Ronan Dozier, Noah Seiberlich, Remington Faleao, and one on the way, Lochlan Holiday Dozier

Step Great-Grandchildren:

Anna, Elijah, and Josiah Dozier

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements, and those wishing to express sympathy online may do so at www.hurstscottfuneralhomes.com
