James Treas
James Royse Treas passed on to heaven on March 21, 2024, at the age of 91. Memorial services will be held at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada, Oklahoma on March 27th at 1:30 PM. A graveside service will immediately follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
James was born to James Carmie and Audrey Loveta (Clifford) Treas on September 21, 1932, in Lula, Oklahoma. James' parents were both schoolteachers and the family moved to Steedman, Rocky Chapel and Ahloso, before James graduated from Stonewall High School in 1950. He surrendered his life to Christ at a revival in Ahloso when he was 13 years old which started his path to a life that would honor and bring glory to God.
James went on to receive a teaching degree from East Central College, though his studies were interrupted by the Korean War, during which he joined the Navy and was stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas.
James married the love of his life, Arlene Clark, on October 23, 1954. James had seen Arlene's picture in the local newspaper and told his friends that he was going to marry that girl. They first met at "Frankie's" Hamburger stand in Ada, Oklahoma on a Sunday afternoon. James and Arlene made their home in the Ada area and had four children - Glenna, Larry, Barry and Elizabeth.
James was a long-time local businessman, who got his start at Clark Oil. He and Arlene started and grew a service station and carwash business, while also raising cattle. Further, he was instrumental in improving the community by helping start the Rural Water District at Latta and sitting on the Ada Planning and Zoning Board.
James faithfully served at First Baptist Church, Ada in various ways, including serving as a deacon and teaching ninth grade boys as well as senior adult men in Sunday School. He was also very active in the community and thoroughly enjoyed helping youth. Early in his life he served as a troop leader in the Boy Scouts, while later he was instrumental in developing Wintersmith Park for family activities through the Kiwanis Club. He especially enjoyed driving the train for all the children.
James and Arlene had just celebrated their forty-fourth wedding anniversary when Arlene suddenly passed away in December 1998.
On August 25, 2002, James was united to Yvonna Stephens in a private ceremony at a glass chapel in Arkansas. They were blessed to share twenty-one years together as James found a new love to share his life with and embraced being a husband, dad, granddad and great granddad to Yvonna and her family. James and Yvonna loved to travel and invested in the lives of their family while taking family trips in the U.S and abroad. They loved their family and the experiences they shared together. James and Yvonna were members of Covenant Church at Latta and worshipped there for many years.
James is pre-deceased by his late wife, Arlene, his daughter, Glenna and his daughter-in-law, Cheryl. He is survived by his wife, Yvonna, his sons, Larry and Barry along with his wife, Kim, daughter Elizabeth Kerr, along with her husband Kive, and son-in-law Jim O'Dell. He is further survived by his stepdaughters, Shelli Stephens Stidham, along with her husband Gary, and Sonya Stephens Howard, along with her husband Scott. Additionally, James is survived by twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
James will always be known for his honesty and integrity, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In remembrance of James Treas' life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Kiwanis Club of Greater Ada, Mama T's Bread and Blessings Homeless Shelter in Ada, or Covenant Church of Ada.
