James P. Tully, 91, of Chicago, died February 10, 2026 after a short illness. Born and raised in the Riis Park neighborhood of Chicago, Jim attended St. John Bosco grammar school and St. Philip High School. He then served in the United States Army, and went to work for the Chicago Fire Department in 1960, retiring as Captain in 1995. He also enjoyed a prolific career as a carpenter for many decades. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Kathleen (nee Edmunds), sons James, Jr. and Michael; daughters Therese, Sheila (Michael Oliver) and Annie (Conan Kisor), as well as seven grandchildren whom he loved more than life itself: Emmet, Frances, Katie, Maeve, Alice, Megan and Grace. He is also survived by his siblings John (Kathleen), Margaret (the late Anthony) Nicosia, Martin (Joyce), Edward (Carol), and Kate (Andy) Fagiolo, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by siblings Nancy, Thomas and Patrick, and parents Patrick and Annie (Stanton) of Co. Mayo, Ireland. He took great pride in his home, which he remodeled and maintained for over 55 years, and he loved to share stories with the many neighbors who visited him there. A memorial visitation will be held at Queen of All Saints Basilica, 6280 N Sauganash Ave, Chicago, IL 60646, on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 9:15-10am with mass to follow at 10am. Interment Private. For information www.smithcorcoran.com or 773.736.3833. In lieu of flowers the family asks you consider a donation in Jim's memory to Misericordia.
