James Turner Obituary

TURNER, James

James Thomas Turner, 89, of 3142 Wanda Woods Drive, Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, of natural causes after an extended decline in health. He was born on October 6, 1935, the only child of Joseph Raymond Turner and Lois Persons Turner. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Martha Mull Turner. He is survived by adopted children, David Turner and Deborah Turner Marett (Stephen); grandchildren, Zechariah Turner, Jeremiah Marett, and Joshua Marett.

James was born in Marion County, GA, and moved to Schley County, GA, sometime before beginning elementary school. He graduated from Ellaville High School in 1953 and served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He worked in the banking and financial service business serving as Vice President, the Bank of Powder Springs, GA, President, the Bank of Oglethorpe, GA, then worked at the Federal Government Small Business Administration in Atlanta, GA. An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed working outside, participated in the DeKalb CERT Community Emergency Response Team, and was active in the Happy Tails Pet Therapy program with his beloved Cairn Terrier, Harry Potter.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 2 at 3:00 PM, Embry Hills United Methodist Church, 3304 Henderson Mill Road, Atlanta, GA 30341. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Happy Tails Pet Therapy, P.O. Box 767961, Roswell, GA 30076, www.happytailspets.org.
