James R. Van Houten Sr., age 91, of Wurtsboro, New York, and a former long-time resident of West Nyack, New York, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
Born in Nyack, New York, on July 1, 1933, to the late George and Bridget Van Houten, Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 70 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Edna Van Houten. Their life together was a beautiful example of a deep, enduring, and truly special love.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his children: James R. Van Houten Jr. and his wife, MaryAnn; Diana Zoutman, and her late husband Butch; Donald Van Houten and his wife, Dawn; and Valerie Van Houten and her partner, Frank.
He was a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren: Emily Van Houten, Cody Van Houten, Michelle Damiano (Nick); Bryan Zoutman, Kristen Osborne (Andrew); Kenneth Hammond, Tyler Hammond, and Jamie Hammond. Jim was also blessed with a wonderful great-grandson, Luca, and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, George and Bridget Van Houten, and his brothers, Dave, Dick, and Vincent Van Houten.
His life was a testament to hard work, family dedication, and enduring love.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a memorial visitation on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home Inc., located in West Nyack, New York. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of James, please visit our floral store.
