Osceola - James Joseph Varda, age 90, of Osceola, passed away on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, at his sons' home with his loving family beside him.
James was born March 27, 1934, in Mishawaka to the late Felix and Celeste (VanDriessche) Varda. He met Shirley and was married at St. Bavo Church on February 7, 1959.
James was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, having served in San Diego, CA, Japan, and Hawaii. He was a member of the St. Bavo Church in Mishawaka. He was an avid deer hunter, loved Golf and had earned a pro status with the Florida Shuffleboard Association and was a member of the Bradenton and Palmetto Shuffleboard Clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann (Dies) Varda of Osceola. A son, Mark (Kim) Varda of Osceola, a daughter, Marcia Griffith of Northwood, OH, four grandchildren, Corbet Griffith and Rachel Griffith, Kristin Frederick and Kaylee Sell, and three great grandchildren, Ava, Eric and Jaxtin. And numerous nieces and nephews. James is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Todd Griffith.
James grew up with ten brothers and sisters, surviving is Lester (Doris) Varda, Lawerance (Barb) Varda, Norma (Bob) Spychalski, and Kathy (Tom) Forester. He was preceded in death by six siblings, Roy Varda, Ernest Varda, Mary Weber and Joseph Varda, Charlotte Stockbridge, and Joe Varda.
