James Russell Volkert, known to all as Jim (close friends as "Jimmy") passed away peacefully surrounded by his two loving dogs, Ollie and Lu Lu. Born on July 30th, 1956, in Quantico, Virginia. The son of a proud military family, he is preceded in death by his father Col. Marvin Volkert (USMC) and loving mother Betty Ragsdale Volkert. Growing up as a military brat, Jim learned early the value of honor and love for one's country.
Jim graduated Rollins College, where he majored in history – and, as those who knew him best would say, minored in golf. Golf was his lifelong passion, from his early tournament victories in Hawaii to his later years competing at his home courses in Florida, including Golden Hills in Ocala and Golden Eagle in Tallahassee. Jim also enjoyed spending time at the range with his sons, (both golf and gun), always striving to perfect their skills.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving wife Lynette; his three sons, Steve (Ashly), Chris, Jack and his sister Nancy Fellmeth (Brian). He will be remembered for his sharp wit, his knack for a good (or bad) impression and his unwavering loyalty to his family, his dogs, his friends and Florida State.
In his professional career, Jim was a consummate salesman and manager of people, primarily in the advertising field. Those who had the pleasure of working with Jim can speak to his professionalism, fairness and lead by example style of management. He was a one in a million manager, mentor and friend.
One of Jim's greatest joys in recent years was "puppy playtime", where he and his buddies would gather to let their dogs run and play while discussing everything from current events to trivia, a tradition that brought him great happiness!
Those who knew Jim, will remember a man who lived life with passion, humor and heart. Someone who rarely missed a tee time, a kickoff or a chance to share a laugh. His spirit will live on in the fairways he loved, the friends he cherished and the family who will miss him dearly.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to remember Jim on Sunday December 14th, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee Florida.
