James Watterson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beinhauer Family Funeral Homes - Peters Township - McMurray on Apr. 1, 2025.
James Clifford "Jimmy" Watterson
Age 61, of Cleveland, Ohio, originally of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, March 14, 2025. Jimmy was the beloved husband to Lisa Watterson; loving son of Karen and the late Clifford Charles "Charlie" Watterson; and brother of Rob (Elaine) Watterson, Ron (Becky) Watterson, and Alyson Watterson Robinson. Jimmy is also survived by many other loving family members and friends.
Born in Pittsburgh, and raised in Upper St. Clair, sports was always a big part of Jim's life. He enjoyed both baseball and golf. However, his lack of speed and inability to hit a curve ball forced him to focus his attention on golf. He worked hard at it and became one of the top ranked junior golfers in the area. Jimmy continued to play at an elite level through his high school career, ultimately winning the individual WPIAL championship title. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment came when he won the West Penn Open Championship as a 21 year old amateur, beating the best local pros and amateurs, and had the honor of having his name etched on the trophy alongside Arnold Palmer. His family was incredibly proud. Those accomplishments, among others, put him on a path to turn professional, move to Florida, and see how far he could go. He played the mini tours for several years before realizing that this path was never going to pay the bills. He picked up and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, pivoting his career path to oversee a division of his family's business. He excelled at this as well. He became a great salesman. The gift of gab was one of Jim's greatest strengths. He could talk to anybody-whether they wanted to listen or not. When the business was sold, he took a job at Park, Ohio in Cleveland as director of business development where he remained a dedicated employee for 25 years. While living in Cleveland, he became a member of Sharon Golf Club. This was Jim's home away from home and it held a special place in his heart. He absolutely loved being a part of the membership and treasured every friendship he made there. He knew how to have fun; he knew how to laugh; he knew how to make others laugh. It was always better when he was there, and he'll be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Rest easy, JW FISHY.
