James Weaver Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 19, 2025.
James Joseph "Jim" Weaver
Chief Master Sergeant, USAF (Ret.)
April 10, 1942 – December 16, 2025
James Joseph Weaver, 83, passed away on December 16, 2025, in Round Rock, Texas. Known as "Jim" to his friends and family, and simply as "Chief" to the airmen he led, he leaves behind a legacy defined by three decades of military service, a sharp analytical mind, his committed faith as a devoted Christian, and a deep devotion to his family.
Born in Akron, Ohio, to Adrian and Mary Weaver, Jim entered the United States Air Force in 1960. Over a distinguished 30-year career, he rose to the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E-9), a testament to his leadership and expertise in Special Weapons Maintenance. His service took him around the globe, with key assignments at McConnell AFB (Kansas), Bitburg and Hahn AFBs (Germany), and Nellis AFB (Nevada).
However, two locations held a special place in his heart: Turkey and Montana. During tours in Balikesir and Incirlik, Jim developed a profound appreciation for the Turkish people and their culture, often spending his free time exploring Christian historical sites like Ephesus. Conversely, his multiple assignments to Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana, allowed him to indulge his greatest passion for the outdoors. He was most at peace with a fishing rod or hunting rifle in hand, hiking the rugged landscapes of the American West.
Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1990, Jim did not slow down. He utilized his GI Bill benefits to earn a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from UNLV. He embarked on a second career as a Forensic Fuel Auditor for the Nevada Department of Transportation, ensuring compliance and integrity in state fuel tax laws. Never one to let his mind idle, he also earned his designation as an IRS Enrolled Agent, spending his evenings and weekends at H&R Block helping others navigate their tax returns.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Carol Rae Weaver (née Larson) of Lusk, Wyoming; his sons, Daniel Weaver (Kalunde Wambua-Weaver) and David Weaver (Angelica Gutierrez); and his brother, John Weaver (Cherie). He was the proud grandfather to Jordan, Nathaniel, Matthew, Justus, and Jalon Weaver, and Barrington and Mathew Miles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ann Arnholt. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Jack Arnholt.
A graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory.
