On Friday, May 9, 2025, James Weightman passed away at age 93 still wanting to live life to the fullest. Jim was the beloved husband of Leslie L. Weightman for a week shy of 44 years; devoted father of Karen Paris, Eric Suissa (Rebecca), David and the late Susan Weightman; loving grandfather of Dylan, Mia, Blake, Sophia and Julia; caring brother of Jay (Susan) Weightman and his late sister, Roberta Whisman.
Jim was proud of his accomplishments in his long career having been part of the development and building of most of DC's Metro projects, airports, sewage and water treatment plants. Jim personified gentleness and goodness. He was a quiet man who was a doer more than a talker. He rode motorcycles and was a passionate and expert scuba diver. He used climbing gear to scale tall trees. Jim had an insatiable curiosity that always led him to take things apart to determine how they worked. He could fix anything with golden hands. He even built his own stunning mahogany sailboat in his 80's. He loved Abba and knew every word to every song. He had funny songs he would sing to the grandchildren. He loved nature and wildlife and history and was fortunate enough to travel to much of the world including Galapagos, China, Europe, the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico and Israel. He had a remarkable, long life but will surely be missed by so many who knew and loved him.
A Graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 2pm, Judean Memorial Gardens 16225 Batchellors Forest Rd. Olney, MD.
Shiva will be held Wednesday night at Eric and Becky's house at 6:30pm.
Shiva service will begin at 6:45pm.
