Mr. James Coleman “J.C.” White, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, October 7, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. White was born August 9, 1946, in Rockingham County, the son of the late Howard Bishop and Virginia Wheatley White. J.C. grew up in the White Plains community and graduated from North Surry High School in 1966. In 1967, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. As a result of his bravery, he received several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge, Purple Heart, Marksman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After returning home, J.C. spent his career in home improvements, owning and operating Jay and Jay Home Improvements for more than 40 years. He later worked as a dispatcher at Hardy Brothers Trucking Company. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Estelle Dalton White; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Al Rohrer and Aprile and Chris Thompson; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Susan White; his grandchildren, Cole Stewart and his fiancée, Montana Moorefield, Casey and the Rev. Caleb Thomas, Sabra White and her partner, Cole Slate, Nathan Thompson, and Kinley Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Cayleigh Thomas and Cassidee Thomas; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Teddy Williams. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Dover Baptist Church, with the Rev. Caleb Thomas officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. No formal visitation will be held. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, care, and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Central Continuing Care, and Kernersville VA Clinic. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
