James "Jim" Hal Williams, Jr., aged 86, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025. Born on November 7, 1938, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim dedicated much of his life to his work, beginning his career at Atlanta Gas Light, where he served diligently for 12 years. He later retired from General Motors after 25 years as a pipefitter at the Lakewood Plant, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. In his retirement years, he enjoyed doing handyman jobs for people in the community. He could fix just about anything.
He had a lifetime love of riding motorcycles and had visited all 50 states, most on his bike. (And he could name the best barbeque place in each state.) He loved spending time in Daytona Beach, FL and the Great Smokey Mountains, where he owned a cabin for forty years. Family was of the utmost importance and he instilled that in his children and grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Scot Williams; his parents, Irene Ferrell, Amos Martin Ferrell, and James Hal Williams, Sr, and his sister, Nancy Brigman.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Judy Hunt Williams; his children, Melinda Sweatman (Mike), Dean Williams (Daryle), and Dale Williams (Cristina); and his brother, Mike Williams. He was a proud grandfather to Katie McLean (Derek and Kynzie), Seth Williams (Bobbie), Lauren Gamble (Holden), Sarah Beth Edgar (Wynn), Evan Williams, Eli Williams, Emily Sweatman (Blake Turner), and Will Sweatman. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Oliver Williams, Sebastian Williams, Miller Gamble, and Amelia McLean. He is also remembered fondly by honorary family member Scott Seiler, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a funeral service on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home, with visitation beginning two hours prior. Interment will follow at Fayetteville City Cemetery.
James "Jim" Hal Williams, Jr. will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his steadfast work ethic, and as being a man of faith. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
