James C. Wilson, II, 89
West Warren - James C. Wilson, II, 89, of West Warren, died on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Joanne R. (Beauregard) Wilson; his daughter Martha Jo Harrison and her husband Justin of Philadelphia; three sons, Dr. James C. Wilson, III, and his wife Rachel, of West Brookfield, Andrew E. Wilson and his wife Ami Clifford of Boston, and Joseph P. Wilson, and his wife Siobhan Powers of Rhode Island, along with nine grandchildren; Steven, Jacob, Erica, Clifford, Gregory, Robert, Ryan, Lile, and Tessa. He also leaves his brother, Charles Wilson, and his sisters, Carol Rixen and Mary Leblanc. He was born in and grew up in Gardner, son of the late James C. and Adele (Arnold) Wilson. In 1966, he and Joanne moved to Warren to raise their family on the Valley View Farm on East Road, where Jim's grandparents had raised their children, including James C. Wilson, I, James' father.
Following graduation from high school, James enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, he graduated from the former Fitchburg Teacher's College, and then went on to earn a M.Ed. degree from the University of Massachusetts. Mr. Wilson was a science teacher at Quaboag Regional High School for 30 years, and a life-long student and teacher of biology. He was endlessly curious, and was known for generously sharing his love of nature with his students and his community. He was also known for his remarkable success at living life on his own terms, by his own lights.
A Funeral Mass for James will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00AM in St. Stanislaus Church, 2270 Main St., in West Warren. There are no calling hours, and everyone is asked to meet at the church. Burial will be in the spring in St. Paul Cemetery in Warren.

Mr Wilson has left many memories and taught me perspectives about life
The conversations will be greatly missed
But the life lessons and the love of nature will always live in me and every one who shared the time to talk and listen
Until we meet again
Rest in peace

My condolences to all of Jim's family. In celebration of his life...
Jim was a unique member of the Quaboag family. I always enjoyed playing poker in the kitchen of his farmhouse in winter, next to the warmth of the old wood burning stove. But when I had to pee, there was a skim of ice in the toilet. He used to take baths in the creek that ran through his property in the middle of winter. At lunch in the teachers' room, he took a jackknife out of his pocket to slice tomatoes for his sandwich, the same knife he used in the lab for dissecting frogs. Or so legend has it. And always that impish smile.

Teaching right across the hall from Jim for many years showed me that he was compassionate, friendly, knowledgeable, fun loving, and good-natured. Students genuinely liked him. He will be missed.

Jim's passion for biology and nature directly influenced my decision to become a Navy Hospital Corpsman, a biology degree and high school biology teacher, a certified Environmental Scuba Diver and a member of Warren's Conservation Commission.

Wanna try something good?

That was what Joe told me I'd be likely to hear from his father before we were introduced. It was a warning (admit it, Joe). I learned pretty quickly that it was worth following that question with a 'yes,' or at least a hesitant 'okay.' It was always something that he just harvested from his vegetable garden, some fresh maple syrup, Kahlua with whole milk. He was always excited about the world and kept that sense of wonder and boundless energy that made him a teacher in every facet of his life. To this day, if anyone says those words in my presence, I immediately hear his voice. There are going to be so many good memories here. I love you all and wish I could be there with you.

Love,
Carolyn
