James Wilson Obituary
James A. Wilson
James A. Wilson, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of seventy-three on March 27th. Jim's life was characterized by dedication to serving his family and community, embodying love through his actions.
Born in Canton, Jim was a natural leader. In his youth he was a successful athlete and a champion of the marginalized. He graduated from Lehman High School. Motivated by a strong commitment to serving God and empowering others, Jim pursued higher education at Kent State University and Malone College, earning a Bachelor's degree in Christian ministries and Bible literature. He later pursued a Master's degree at Fuller Seminary. Jim devoted over a decade to Young Life, serving as a director and leaving a lasting impact on countless people.
Jim married his first wife Barbara (Ware) Huber, and they were blessed with children Jesse, Nathan, and Bethany. Though their marriage journey took different paths, Jim's love and support for his children remained steadfast and unwavering.
Later, Jim found love again and married Phyllis (Lukens) Wilson. He would often tell others that his favorite part of the day was going to sleep and waking up next to his best friend and deeply loved wife, Phyllis. Together, they welcomed their daughter Audrey into the world, and soon after, Jim built from the ground up a sanctuary among towering trees. This home was his "castle," reflecting his deep love for nature and his dedication to fostering a life filled with warmth and togetherness.
Jim worked in fire and water restoration, owning a ServiceMaster, and later a repair and remodeling company, Wilson Enterprises in Stark County. A skilled contractor, Jim's hands crafted not only homes but also a life filled with love and purpose.
Jim enjoyed serving his community. He lent his skills in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, and contributed his time to supporting the GlenOak Band and boosters organization.
Jim was always willing to jump in and offer a helping hand with various projects whenever asked. He also shared his expertise, teaching his skills to others. His willingness to go above and beyond for those he loved was a true testament to his generous spirit.
Jim was a happy guy, waking up early every day with a smile on his face. He greeted his family and friends with a warmth that left no doubt they were loved. He enjoyed fishing and watching sports with his children and brothers. He was an avid reader and history enthusiast. He had a great sense of humor and a knack for storytelling.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Betty (Lama) Miller and James Arthur Wilson, as well as his brother Sean Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Phyllis Wilson. Two brothers, Craig Wilson and Ron Wilson (Kelly Wood), also survive him. Jim leaves behind his beloved children Jesse Wilson (Laura), Nathan Wilson (Rachel), Bethany Morrison (Justin), and Audrey Wilson (Todd Tederous). Additionally, he is survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He had a special gift for bringing people together, a legacy that continues even after his passing. Jim's spirit will forever shine bright in the hearts of those he touched. His laughter, kindness, and love will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date. Details for attendance will be updated on Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home's website. Jim was one of the best bosses I ever had, ( at ServiceMaster), he cared about his employees, and if a family matter came up during a work day he was always willing to help out in whatever way he could! Will miss your " shining light" in this world. Sending of comfort to your family.
