James Womack Obituary

James "Jim" Nevin Womack, age 77, of McDonough, Georgia passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, under the care of Southern Grace Hospice. He was born on November 2, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Charles Nevin Womack and Elinor Mabel Latham Womack.

For more than 35 years, he was the proud owner of The Corner Maker, where he perfected the art of custom framing and built something far greater than a business. His shop was a place where customers became friends, friends became family, and a simple visit for a frame often turned into coffee, conversation, and laughter.

Jim honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. That same sense of duty and commitment carried into everything he did, whether it was perfecting a frame for a customer, helping a friend in need, or simply taking time to listen.

A true people person, in every meaning of the phrase, Jim was one who never met a stranger. His quick wit and easy smile made him a natural storyteller and an even better listener. Always ready with a joke or a warm word, he had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Beyond the shop, Jim enjoyed playing golf, reading, a good drink and a nice steak. He loved cheering on the Atlanta Falcons and the Braves.

Though he was well-known in the community, Jim's proudest titles were Pawpaw, Dad, and Husband. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he was the kind of person who could be counted on through every season of life. His legacy is one of kindness, connection, and a deep appreciation for the people around him.

Jim will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Debby Owen Womack; his son, Dave Womack and his wife, Amber Cook Womack; his grandchildren, Hayden and Harper; two sisters, Judy Finke and Carol Cotton; several nieces and nephews; and the countless friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian Womack, and a brother, Steve Womack.

A service to honor Jim's life will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service start time at the funeral home. A graveside service and interment will follow the service at the McDonough City Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Kelly Lee, Kel Lee, Walt Lee, David Owen, Derrell Anglyn, Sammy Craig, and Tony Moye.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial contributions to the Southern Grace Hospice Foundation, https://www.southerngracehospice.com/donate, in appreciation for the excellent care Jim received. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.cannonclevelandfunerals.com. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, 770-914-1414.

I so miss stopping by to see Jim before he closed the shop. He was so friendly and ready to share a joke. I was friends with Debby and taught school with her for several years. My deepest sympathy to all his family.
