James Roger Woodfin, 70, of Verbena, Alabama passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024 at UAB Palliative Care Unit after a year long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born on November 1, 1953, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was the son of Jean Woodfin of Clanton, Alabama and the late Joe Woodfin.
Roger was the epitome of a good ole country boy. He believed in God, honesty always and without exception, fairness, hard work, family and love. He was a lover of the outdoors. His yard was his joy and he honored his gifts from God by taking care of them. He retired from CSX Railroad as a weldor. He loved to weld. He loved good country cooking. He loved to whistle and draw comical faces. He loved his tractor. He called it his expensive wheel barrow. He loved his baseball caps. He lived a quiet, simple life and made his community a better place.
He adored his family. He is survived by his love and wife of 48 years, Susan Woodfin, his son, Blake, whom he considered his greatest gift, daughter-in-law, Shannon, and grandson, Noah, who blessed his life immensely. He said they fit "his bubble" perfectly. Noah was his swim buddy. They made many memories playing in the pool. He is also survived by a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and their families.
To honor his wishes, the family will hold a private memorial. The family requests no flowers or food, but expresses their love and appreciation for all of the love and support shown during his illness.
