James P. Wright, 94, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Pikeville, Kentucky, died Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Witham Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana.
James was born in Hellier, Kentucky on May 16, 1929, the son of the late Clarence Edward Wright and Molly Ratliff Wright.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by siblings Don Edward Wright, LouAnna Wright, Thomas Earl Wright, Ernest Wright and Ernestine Wright.
He is survived by a brother, Raleigh Wright (Linda) of Pikeville, Kentucky and a sister, Dolly Wright Ratliff of Indianapolis, Indiana.
James is also survived by nephews, James Lambros of Naples, Florida, Mike Lambros of Pikeville, Kentucky, Dr. Terry Wright of Lexington, Kentucky, and Judge Robert F. Wright of Pikeville, Kentucky and nieces, Kathy Lambros of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kim Wright of Pikeville, Kentucky and Carla Ratliff of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by three great nephews, four great nieces, and two great great nephews.
James worked in heavy construction for years, including at Fishtrap Dam and the Armington Science Building at the University of Pikeville. It was said he was the best steel tier around. After working construction, he was property manager for Friend Realty Company for over thirty years and worked until he was over eighty years of age. He stayed busy, finding joy in helping family, neighbors, and friends with anything they needed. James loved animals and always took care of them when they found their way to his door. In the last year of his life, he enjoyed watching geese and ducks in the pond behind his home.
James's personality was to be humble and kind throughout his entire life. He was a deeply cherished and loved son, brother, uncle, and friend.
James will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at J W Call Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2024 with visitation prior, beginning at 9:00 a.m, at J W Call Funeral Home with Heiko Giese officiating. Burial will follow in the Ferguson Cemetery at Harold, Kentucky.
Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
