James Robert Yates

James Robert "Bob" Yates, a beloved figure in the Nashville community, passed away on April 3rd, 2024, at the age of 80. He was born on November 3rd, 1943, in Nashville to William Thurman Yates, Sr. and Addelee Maxwell Yates.
Bob lived a life rich with passion, adventure, and unwavering commitment. He was a visionary entrepreneur and the proud owner of a successful distribution software company. His innovative spirit and dedication to excellence left an indelible mark on the industry. Colleagues admired his work ethic and ability to turn challenges into opportunities.
Before embarking on his entrepreneurial journey, Bob served in the United States Navy. His commitment to duty and honor shaped his character, and he carried the Navy's values with pride throughout his life.
Apart from life on land, he found solace on the open waters. Sailing was his escape-a dance with the wind and waves that brought him joy and tranquility. He reveled in the freedom of the sea, where worries dissolved into the horizon.
Travel was Bob's passport to discovery. From coast to coast, he explored the world with an insatiable curiosity. And wherever he went, a fine cigar accompanied him-a ritual that connected him to moments of reflection and camaraderie.
Bob leaves behind a legacy of resilience, passion, and love. His memory will forever sail on the winds, linger in the fragrant smoke of a well-enjoyed cigar, and shine bright in the hearts of those he leaves behind to cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents William and Addelee, Bob is preceded in death by his brothers Tommy and Billy Yates. He is survived by his niece Kelley McAllister, cousin Lloyd Parnell, and ex-wife Carolyn Hester Yates Primrose.
The family cordially invites guests and relatives for a time of visitation on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 PM with burial to follow at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216.
