James J. Youngkin

Youngkin James J. Age 83, formerly of Ephrata and Philadelphia, passed away early Saturday morning, April 27, 2024, in the loving care and presence of his daughter, Colleen. Born in Philadelphia, Jim was a son to the late Herbert and Marie (McCarron) Youngkin and the devoted husband to Maureen (Correll) Youngkin for 55 years until her passing in 2021. Jim grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and for over 35 years he worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer. For many years, he was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church. In 2006, he and Maureen moved to Lancaster County and resided in Ephrata for 15 years. While in Ephrata, he attended OMPH Catholic Church and enjoyed the local restaurants and shopping. Jim enjoyed summers with Maureen in Wildwood, NJ, old movies, the company of his dog, and watching sports. When Maureen passed, Jim moved to Florida where he enjoyed being outside and spending time with his son Michael and his family. Jim is survived by four children, James 'Jimmy' Youngkin, Jr. (Lauren) of Philadelphia, Colleen Gallagher of Ephrata, Michael Youngkin (Diana) of Florida, Shawn Youngkin (Dawn) of Glenolden; grandchildren, Bobbie Lynn, Michael, Jessica, Lauren, Kayla, Michael Jr., Kyle, and Jayson; great grandchildren, Grayson, Nora, Wesley, Dawkin, and Callum; and a brother, Herbert 'Cookie' Youngkin (Terri) of Stroudsburg. Jim was predeceased by 3 sisters, Marie Hamilton, Roseanne Hughes, and Patricia McClung. A Visitation will be held on Fri., May 3rd from 9:30 to 10 A.M. at CAVANAGH FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074, and the memorial service will begin at 10 A.M. Interment will immediately follow at S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery,1600 S. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064.
