Celebrating the Life of Jamunie Maraj Prashad (Sattie)
On March 17, 1944, Jamunie "Sattie" Maraj Prashad was the youngest gift to her dad the late Subedar Maraj and mom, the late Dhanraji Singh. She joined 5 other siblings - brothers Heytram Maraj, Nandram Maraj, and Mourari Maraj, and sisters Leila Maraj and Mohini Maraj. They resided in Bachelors' Adventure in Guyana and later moved to Courbane Park, Guyana.
She would go on to court and then marry Deoram Persaud Prashad - a Senior Master at Lusignan Primary school. "And thereto I pledge thee my troth" has never been more true of any other two - a marriage that lasted 57 happy years of true love and togetherness. Indeed, they would share a powerful bond characterized by respect, dignity, duty and honor. They had their own bundles of joy - son Satyanand Dharmendra Persaud and daughter Nalini Persaud. The family migrated and settled in Queens, New York in 1992.
Sattie was a very private and simple person who didn't believe in extravagance. Those who knew her understood what it is like to be loved by and cared for by someone who put others first always. She was always a dutiful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother - someone whose kindness, love, care, compassion and empathy are unsurpassed.
Her life was also defined by her strong faith in God and by the loving bonds she shared with her family. Born a Hindu and practicing Hinduism, she respected all religions and never missed reading the Bible and watching Sunday Morning Mass. She was preceded in death by her beloved brothers Heytram and Nandram and sister Leila. But, she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her loving husband Deoram (Patrick), devoted son, Satyanand (Sat) Dharmendra, loving daughter Nalini, her son-in-law Joe Lehman, her granddaughter (Julianna McKenzie Lehman), her brother Mourari (Buddy) and sister Mohini, as well as, a multitude of relatives and friends.
In the hearts of those who knew her, Jamunie "Sattie" Maraj Prashad will forever be remembered for her gentleness, kindness, and for her unwavering dedication to her husband and family. The way she lived life in peace was the way she departed for heaven on Monday, March 25, 2024 - the day of the Hindu festival of Holi 2024 - as she slept peacefully in her bed at home. Though she may be gone from our sight, her memory will continue to inspire and uplift us all and we know that we have an Angel looking over us. May her journey be blessed, may her soul gain salvation, and may God grant her eternal peace in the Kingdom of Heaven. We love you and cherish the times we spent together - until we meet again, farewell our precious wife, mother and grandmother. Om Namah Shiva, Jai Shri Krishna, Jai Shri Ram, Jai Bajrang Bali & God Bless
