Obituary published on Legacy.com by Garrity Funeral Home on Jan. 12, 2026.
Life-long Prairie du Chien resident, Jan R. Kieser, D.D.S., age 90, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026, surrounded by family at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. He was born on November 21, 1935, in Prairie du Chien to Russell and Bernice (Kaber) Kieser. Jan graduated from Prairie du Chien High School with the class of 1953 before attending Marquette University on a football scholarship. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Marquette University in 1959 and then served in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kansas, as a dentist from 1959 to 1962. Jan married Odean "Deanie" Kramer at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien on August 10, 1957. After his three years of dental service in the U.S. Army, he returned to Prairie du Chien and worked as a dentist for 46 years, earning the trust of many people in Prairie and the surrounding area. Jan also served on the Prairie du Chien School Board and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church where he volunteered on multiple committees and the parish council. He also spent much of his time as a youth football and basketball coach and often worked as the head timer for track meets at Prairie du Chien High School, never missing a track meet, even attending away meets. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing tennis in his free time. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Deanie; children, Dr. Randall (Mara) Kieser, Jennifer (Jeff) Bibler, Dr. David Kieser, and Douglas (Christina) Kieser; siblings, Susan Bunders and Bruce (Judy) Kieser; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be offered on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's Church of Holy Family Parish, with Fr. Brandon Guenther as celebrant, and with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until the start of Mass.
