Jan M. LaBounty, 69, of Moore Drive, Peru, died Monday, April 21, 2025, at the UVM Health Network – CVPH, Plattsburgh with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Massena on February 12, 1956, the daughter of Orrin and Elizabeth (Duprey) Seguin. Jan had many memories with her siblings growing up and loved passing down stories of her time helping her family with their bar, Club 37 in Massena. Many folks remember Jan growing up with the bar and when she was of age, she could flawlessly pour any combination of drinks, whether it was around for years or just invented on the spot. Many still knew Jan today from her time in Massena and at her family's prized business.
Jan was a caring and dedicated bus driver for Peru Central School for over 16 years and cherished all the kids she met and transported throughout her time there. She loved driving her bus so much that you would often hear her say that she would rather be driving a bus than her SUV she adored having. Jan received a gifted license plate frame that even depicted this with the words "I'd rather be driving a school bus right now!" When she wasn't towing 62 kids to school you could find her lounging outside on a hot day testing the limits of her tan with a book in hand. If the sun wasn't out Jan would be in her favorite five-dollar yard sale recliner with her sacred iPad for hours; that her 2 adult children taught her to use. If Jan was on her iPad, we all knew she was either finding a new recipe to make her family or buying a crafty tool to make our lives easier. Summer was her preferred season; she was off from school and could spend her time tending to her rose bushes and flower gardens that brought her home to life. We all knew when summer was coming to a close when Jan's most anticipated yearly trip to camp with the girls came. She would talk about this trip daily as soon as it was scheduled and always came home with the biggest smile and stories that left her laughing in tears. Jan lived a beautiful, loving, fun, resilient life and was the strength and glue of her family that she loved endlessly.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 40 years, Steven LaBounty; her two finally leveled out children, Nathan E. LaBounty (Mariah and newly acquired granddaughter, Lizzy), and Sable LaBounty (forever alone); Jan's brother Jody Seguin (Wanda); Sister Jackie Larche (Ken); and all of her aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Jan's absence has left a hole in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Orrin and Betty Seguin, older brother, Jamie Seguin, and younger sister, Joann Seguin.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 10 to 11 AM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru.
