Jana Bern Turnbull, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at her daughter's home in Terre du Lac, Missouri. Born on May 1, 1947, in Pensacola, Florida, she was the youngest of two children born to James Turnbull and Paula (Scott) Turnbull. Jana's childhood years were marked by her father's service in the United States Navy, leading her to grow up in various places.
Jana dedicated a significant part of her life to the Kingston K-14 School District, where she served as a custodian. Her time there was filled with genuine joy as she interacted with countless children, creating lasting memories that would remain with her until her final days.
Deeply committed to her family, Jana instilled the values of hard work and perseverance in her children, Mary Storz (husband, Scott) and James Turnbull (wife, Nicole). She found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to four beloved grandchildren: Storm Turnbull, Austin Turnbull, Curtis Draper Jr., and Alicia Frago (Tristin). Her great-grandchildren, Riley Turnbull, Chance Frago, and Willow Frago, held a special place in her heart, reflecting the immense love she had for her family.
Jana’s passions extended beyond her family. She enjoyed quilting and found solace in outdoor activities such as fishing and camping—experiences she cherished with her late husband, Riley Turnbull. She often reminisced about those evenings spent by the fire with her loved ones.
In addition to her beloved family, Jana formed many wonderful friendships through her AA group, where she found great support. Her dogs, Maddie and Mike, were also cherished companions in her life. Jana was known for her independence and strong willed spirit, yet her caring nature and beautiful soul touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Jana is preceded in death by her father, James Kinnison; mother, Paula (Scott) Kinnison; husband, Riley Turnbull; and sister, Sharon Kinnison.
Jana's legacy will be celebrated during visitation on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at DeClue Funeral Home, located at 301 E. High Street, Potosi, MO 63664, followed by a Graveside Service at 12:15 PM at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi.
