Jane Wakeman Carnochan Clausen, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Friday November 15th, 2024 in New Providence, NJ at the age of 93 years. She was born in New York, New York on April 14, 1931 to the late Olga and Allan Carnochan and was raised in Tuckahoe New York where she graduated from high school. She then attended Cedar Crest College in Allentown PA where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics.
During her college years she met and began dating Douglas B. Clausen. They were married on April 3, 1954 and moved to Elmendorf Air Force base in Alaska where Douglas was serving in the Air Force. They were blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage.
They moved several times after the service in Alaska and finally settled in Fanwood N.J. were they lived for close to 60 years. In 2017 they relocated to Lantern Hill Retirement Community in New Providence N.J. During their time in Fanwood they had three children and became active in the community.
Jane worked for many years as a preschool teacher, starting at Acorn Nursery school and eventually at Westminster Preschool at Fanwood Presbyterian Church where she became the director. She was also very active in The College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains which provides scholarships for young people graduating from high school. She was also active in the local Garden Club. She loved cooking, entertaining, gardening and traveling, especially summers spent on Long Lake in Maine.
She is survived by her daughter Betsy and husband David, daughter Beverly, son David, grandchildren Amanda and husband Derek, Jordan, Ashley, Dante and Garret and great-grandchildren Parker, Jameson and Henry and numerous nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in her memory to the Fanwood Fire Department.
A joint celebration of Jane and Doug's lives together will be held sometime in the spring of 2025.
