Jane Dillon - Mullin

Mary "Jane" Dillon - Mullin, 79, a beloved member of her family and community, was born on May 4, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa. She peacefully departed from this life on January 7, 2026, with family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, at Nativity Catholic Church in Sioux City, with Father Peter Duc Hung Nguyen as Celebrant. A funeral luncheon will follow the Mass at Immaculate Conception parish center. Procession to the cemetery will begin at 2:30 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska. Interment will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in rural Jackson. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Jane was the daughter of Frank and Noma O'Neill and spent her childhood in rural Ponca, Nebraska. Her early education took place in a one-room schoolhouse in Willis, Nebraska, leading up to her graduation from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1964. She went on to earn a degree at Nettleton Business College in Sioux City.

Jane started her career at Toy National Bank before dedicating herself to being a stay-at-home mom. She returned to work in 1980, spending an impressive 34 years as an administrative assistant in various departments at Security National Bank in Sioux City, until her retirement in 2015.

On April 8, 1967, Jane married James "Matt" Dillon at St. John's Catholic Church in Willis. Together they moved to Sioux City, where they raised four wonderful children. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family, especially cheering on their kids at their many activities. Their 42-year marriage was filled with love and patience until Jim’s passing in 2009.

In a beautiful new chapter, Jane married James Mullin on August 2, 2014, at Nativity Catholic Church in Sioux City. With this union, she welcomed a new family that included 15 more grandkids! Their eleven and a half years of marriage were marked by joy and companionship, bringing warmth to her life in the later years.

Jane's life was filled with many cherished traditions, from family vacations and holidays at "the farm," to the rowdy celebrations of “Dillonpalooza.” Christmas gatherings at the Stoney Creek Inn have also left a lasting mark on her family's story. Jane was a devout Catholic and member of Church of the Nativity since 1972. Her faith was very important to her, and she passed those values down to her children. Most importantly, Jane was proud of her wonderful family—her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her presence at their activities filled all their lives with love and support.

Jane was a constant example of positivity, kindness, and resilience, always seeing the best in people and situations. Her interests included traveling, dancing, crocheting, reading, and playing card games. She had an “addiction to” Dr. Pepper and corn chips, and an extensive collection of roosters, angels, and bells. Jane's grandkids always looked forward to her deliveries of her famous “grandma’s bread” and chocolate chip bars!

Jane was a woman of compassion and dedication, exemplified by her 55-year membership in the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as President of Jackson Post #175 for 24 years, advocating for military veterans in her community—an endeavor that reflected her commitment to service. She never missed a Memorial Day ceremony in Jackson!

Jane is survived by her devoted husband, James Mullin; her children, Randy (Stephanie) Dillon of Raymore, Missouri; Amy (James) Robillard of North Branch, Minnesota; Curt Dillon of Iowa City, Iowa; and Abby (Kevin) Pullman of Ham Lake, Minnesota; step-children Kim (Ken) Boysen and Donald (Jessica) Mullin all of Danbury, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Jean (Bob Casey) Maxfield of North Sioux City, South Dakota; Julie Rasmussen of Ponca, Nebraska; and Dan (Jacki) O'Neill of Lincoln, Nebraska. Her family extends to many nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Noma O'Neill; her first husband, James "Matt" Dillon; her parents-in-law, Joe and Margaret Dillon; her brothers, Jerry and Brian O’Neill; and her brothers-in-law, Jack and Pat Dillon, and Russ Rasmussen.

The legacy of Mary “Jane" Dillon-Mullin will forever continue within the hearts of those she touched throughout her life. Her spirit, characterized by faith, love, and commitment to family, remains a guiding light for all who knew her.
