RALEIGH - Jane Gray McDuffie Allen passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, after a long period of declining health. Jane was the daughter of the late James Massey McDuffie and Edith Howard McDuffie of Saint Pauls, North Carolina. She graduated from Woman's College in Greensboro, N.C. in 1954. After graduating, she started her career in education, teaching at Clayton High School. Mrs. Allen taught in the Wake County Public School System from 1978 until her retirement in 1995.
Jane was a long-time member of Saint Giles Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for several years. She volunteered with the Saint Giles Tutoring Program helping underprivileged students.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Fontaine Allen; her parents, James Massey McDuffie and Edith Howard McDuffie; her sister, June McDuffie Peacock; brothers, Alton Crawford Parker and William Otha Parker; and niece, Janet Atherton Raab.
Jane is survived by her sons, James F. Allen, Jr. and husband, Timothy E. Locklear of Wake Forest, N.C., John L. Allen and wife, Shannon Guffey of Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are nieces, Beth Bunce, Nancy Parker, Ann Parker, all of Fayetteville, N.C.; great niece, Emily Gray Small of Asheville, N.C.; and special friends and caretakers, Maggie Blake and Ron Fulton of Raleigh, N.C.; and her loyal four-legged lap companion, Abby.
The family wishes to thank Transitions Life Care for their kind and thoughtful care during the recent weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to The SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Ln, Raleigh, NC 27603.
