Jane Anne Hageman passed away in Alameda, CA on October 16, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril John and Margaret Mary, her stepmother Eva Marie, her sister Eva Lu Carufel, and her brother John George.

Jane Anne was born on November 21, 1944, in Ogden, Utah and grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended Minneapolis Vocational High School. After high school, Jane began what would be a long career working for the VA Hospital. Her first position was at the VA Outpatient Clinic at Fort Snelling in 1962. She and her best friend Sharon (Larry) Gorton headed west in 1965, and she began working at the VA Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic in Los Angeles. After positions in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, she took a job at the San Francisco VA Hospital in 1982, and she worked her way up to the position of Assistant to the Chief of Staff. She retired in 2005.

Jane settled in Alameda in 1982, where she found joy as an active member of many communities, including crafters, coffee drinkers, and the faithful. She was talented at many crafts, but her true passion was quilting. A member of several local guilds, she helped organize craft and quilt shows and retreats. Prior to retirement, she began to have coffee and donuts each morning with a group of local Alamedans. This became a regular practice for the rest of her life, where she met with friends to share life updates, support, and good conversation. Those who knew Jane will remember that she was never without a book – in her purse, in her hand, or in her ear.

Wherever Jane was, she was always helping. Jane was a dedicated mother, who shuttled her daughter Eva and her friends to many events including swimming, diving, and paddling club (where she also became an active member). She was committed to a life of service to others, and to her Catholic faith. She volunteered for many years at the annual White Elephant Sale for the Oakland Museum as well for St. Philip Neri Church and St. Albert the Great Church, where she also served as President of the Outreach Committee.

Jane was a loving and supportive mother, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed and always remembered by her daughter, Eva (Christina) Hageman of Washington, DC; nieces and nephews, Margaret (Michael) Peniston, Sean Hageman, Tony Carufel, Caren Carufel, Mike Carufel, DeAnn (Adrian) Stimmler; and many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11am, Wednesday, October 29th, at St. Albert the Great Church in Alameda. All are welcome. A reception will follow the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jane's honor to the Outreach Committee of St. Philip Neri/ St. Albert the Great Church, the Alameda Food Bank, or a nonprofit or charity of your choice dedicated to providing equitable health care access.
