Monica Murphy Sokil

Monica Murphy Sokil, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Alameda, California, at the age of 61. Born on March 17, 1964, in Beverly, Massachusetts, Monica brought light and compassion to every life she touched.

Monica was the cherished wife of Stephen Sokil, devoted daughter of Daniel and Judith Murphy, and loving sister to Kelly Murphy Barrette and Clint Murphy. Her family and friends will forever remember her warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to others.

A registered dietician and a gifted medical researcher with Kaiser Permanente, Monica devoted her career to advancing healthcare and improving lives through her scholarship. Her work was published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, and beyond her professional achievements, she was admired for the way she always put others first, both in her work and in her personal life.

An alumna of Beverly High School, Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley, Monica embodied curiosity, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence. Outside of her professional life, Monica found joy in exploring the world around her. She loved hiking, running along the coast, cooking meals with her husband Steve, playing tennis, enjoying nature-and especially her fondness for penguins and good wine.
