Jane Hauenstein, of Atlantic Beach, FL, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025 after a six month battle with cancer. She was born in Nashville, TN on January 5, 1956. She graduated Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University with her Bachelor of Arts and received her Florida Teaching Certificate from the University of North Florida. She taught language arts for the gifted program at Stanton College Prep and James Weldon Johnson Middle School. Jane finished her career at Kernan Middle School and retired after 26 years of teaching.
Jane met her husband Stephen at Vanderbilt University and they were happily married for 45 years. After marriage, they purchased their home in Atlantic Beach, where they raised their daughter, Jennifer. Jane loved spending time with Stephen going on nature walks, weekend road trips, beachcombing, and collecting record albums. She loved a good book, a concert, and spending time with her grandsons. Jane was an active member of her church community, Oceanside Church of Christ. She was kind and loyal, and cared deeply about her family, friends and students.
Jane is preceded in death by her mother, Jane Stearns. She is survived by her father, Dr. Richard Stearns, her brother, Bruce Stearns (Kathryn), her husband, Stephen Hauenstein, her daughter, Jennifer Hadden (Chris), and her grandsons, Ty and River.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2025 in Quinn Shalz Funeral Home, located at 3600 3rd Street South, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.
